Mallee Road Trip
A drought recovery research and regenerative program for Mallee Track communities.
In 2019 the Mildura Rural City Council received a Drought Preparedness package from the State Government. Community Planning Officer Rhae Kendrigan collaborated with dry-land farming communities across the Mallee to identify the key challenges they are facing.
The Regenerative Communities program co-designed with these towns such as Ouyen, the Millewa and Murrayville, aimed to provide a fresh perspective and new ideas on how to approach community resilience in regional/rural farming communities.
The program included workshops, demonstrations, talks, celebratory dinners, kids activities and mental health support services. We covered 680 kilometres visiting 5 communities, took 22 special guests with us and ran activities for over 500 people, we engaged 125 children in activities and worked with over 30 local and national organisations to deliver the Regenerative Communities Road Trip!
We formed a working group and brought together partners from community groups, government, health services, small businesses and research organisations to leverage the funding.
The Road Trip was designed to visit each community with offering special guests tailored to their specific needs, with a central forum in Mildura featuring all guests.
